Edexcel IGCSE Maths Paper 1H Revision Checklist
Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A Paper 1H is one of the Higher-tier examination papers in the linear 4MA1 route. It assesses mathematics from the specification, and a calculator may be used. A useful revision checklist should therefore cover number, algebra, geometry and statistics rather than pretending that a particular topic is guaranteed to appear on Paper 1H.
Confirm which specification you are taking
Check the exact qualification code on your school or exam entry information. The linear Pearson Edexcel International GCSE Mathematics A route is 4MA1, with Higher papers labelled 1H and 2H. Other routes, including the modular option, have different entry arrangements. Do not mix a modular unit checklist with a linear examination revision plan. Use the relevant current specification and published examiner materials as the authority for content and examination details.

Number skills to check before Paper 1H
Test fractions, percentages, ratio, indices, standard form, recurring decimals and bounds at the level appropriate to your syllabus. Instead of ticking a topic because you remember the formula, complete unfamiliar questions without hints. Check exact and rounded forms, especially when a question requires working to a specified accuracy. A calculator helps evaluate expressions but cannot decide the correct method for you.

Algebra and graph skills
Include expanding and factorising, quadratic equations, rearranging, functions, sequences, inequalities and interpreting graphs. For example, make sure you can factorise x² − 5x + 6 as (x − 2)(x − 3) and explain why its zeros are 2 and 3. Then attempt an equation presented in a word problem. The ability to recognise a mathematical structure in unfamiliar language is important across both Higher papers.

Geometry and trigonometry skills
Review angle relationships, circle geometry, similarity, Pythagoras, right-angle and non-right-angle trigonometry, and measures such as surface area and volume. Draw diagrams and label units. If a side appears unexpectedly longer than the hypotenuse, stop and check the calculation. Formula selection and clear working remain important on calculator papers, where pressing the correct buttons is only part of the solution.
Statistics, probability and interpretation
Practise probability diagrams, averages, cumulative frequency, grouped data, scatter graphs and interpretation of tables. Explain what a calculated result means in its context. When using probabilities, ensure they lie between zero and one and that mutually exclusive complete outcomes total one. Compare sample solutions with mark schemes to understand what working must be shown, but do not rely on memorising a specific past question.

Make a revision timetable that tests retention
Use a topic checklist, then alternate focused repair sessions with mixed exam-style practice. After finishing a problem, close the solution and try a similar question a few days later. Leave time to examine the cause of incorrect answers: method selection, algebra manipulation, calculator entry or reading the question. Paper 1H preparation should also support Paper 2H because both cover the qualification’s wider content.
